Academy in McCormic County

There are many important milestones in an infant’s life. From learning to roll over to taking their first steps, these moments are crucial in their development. As a parent, it is important to be aware of these milestones and help your child reach them. At The Learning Vine academy in McCormic County, we believe that early childhood education is key in helping children reach their full potential. We provide a supportive environment where infants can learn and explore at their own pace. Here are five important milestones for your infant!

Two Months

At two months old, your infant should be able to hold their head up for short periods of time. They will also start to develop more control over their arms and legs. Help them to practice by providing plenty of tummy time. Babies even have the abillity to notice how people smile at them and they will eventually learn to smile in return.

Four Months

By four months old, your infant will likely be able to roll over. This is a great milestone for their motor skills. You can help them to practice by placing toys just out of their reach. Another thing that babies should be able to do at four months is start making sounds like “ba-ba” or “ga-ga.” You can help them further develop these skills by talking to your baby as much as possible, even if it’s just repeating the noises that they make at you.

Six Months

At six months old, your infant should be able to sit up with little assistance. You can help strengthen and develop the muscles in your baby’s neck by offering assistance while they sit up or through tummy-time, where you lay them on their stomach and encourage them to look up by playing with various toys in front of them.

This is also a great time to start introducing your baby to solid foods. Be sure to introduce new foods slowly and watch for any allergies.

One Year

Your infant’s first birthday is a big milestone! They should now be able to walk with assistance. You can help them practice by holding their hands while they walk. You’ll also notice around the one-year mark that your child may become more independent. They may also start to struggle with separation anxiety or acting shy around new people. It’s a great time to start noticing new personality traits in your child.

Eighteen Months

By eighteen months old, your infant should be able to walk on their own. While some toddlers begin to walk around the one-year milestone, many start a little later as well. The eighteen-month milestone is when you’ll really want to start babyproofing your home.

This is the time when they will also start to use single words. You can help them practice by reading stories and singing songs together.
